Mainly
through the development of a series of textbooks and
promotional video materials, as well as a variety of
activities in both elementary and secondary schools,
the School Enrichment Program for Special Olympics will
publicize beliefs and goals of Special Olympics and
encourage students to actively participate in, understand
and serve Special Olympics. By offering courses, the
program will draw youth’s attention to the knowledge
of Special Olympics, including its mission and major
goals, programs, athletes, history, and related tasks
and requirements for the 2007 Shanghai Special Olympics
Games. By understanding the characteristics of people
with intellectual disabilities, together with the causes
of their disabilities, youths will come to understand
their learning, living conditions and other needs, thus
engendering a feeling of identity with them. By organizing
abundant and varied theme activities, the program will
boost the training of Shanghai’s youths in being civilized
and displaying etiquette, thus inspiring students not
only to respect life, but also to actively improve themselves.
The activities of the program, such as through promotion,
training and spectating, will encourage all youths to
participate in and serve Special Olympics, and to build
a good and supportive atmosphere for Special Olympics.
The School Enrichment Program for the 2007 Special Olympics
World Summer Games will last from May 2006 to October
2007. Focusing on the spirit of Special Olympics, “Everybody
is a participant and everybody is a winner,” the program
will substantially reflect the belief of the Special
Olympics Games – participating together, sharing joy,
exchanging skills, and improving friendship. Concentrating
on the theme of the 2007 Special Olympics World Summer
Games, “I know I can,” the program will also reflect
social harmony and the human-oriented faith, promote
the spirit of Special Olympics athletes that constantly
strive to become stronger and the spirit of Special
Olympics, “Equality and Tolerance,” thus letting people
enjoy together the inspiration and happiness that comes
from the Games. |
