In addition to various competitive events during the 2007 SOWSG, the Special Olympics athletes will participate in an important non-sports program - the Healthy Athletes Program. The program is intended to identify potential physiological disabilities and illnesses of the Special Olympics athletes as early as possible through relevant medical screening by professional doctors, provide them with health-related advices, help them develop good living habits, improve their health and fitness, consequently enhance their quality of life and their ability to adapt to society.
More than 7,000 Special Olympics athletes from over 160 countries and regions around the world will receive health examination at the Jiangwan Stadium. From October 2 through 10, the Healthy Athletes Program will hold screenings and health education in six programs, including Bright Eyes, Healthy Hearing, Healthy Smiles, Fit Feet, Health Promotion and Fun Fitness.
All Special Olympics athletes who participate in the Healthy Athletes Program will receive unique memorial badges and various souvenirs.
